Gunnison Valley’s CO Public Lands Day
May 20, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pmFree
The inaugural Colorado Public Lands Day is just around the corner, and we’re inviting you to celebrate! On Saturday, May 20, join High Country Conservation Advocates, State Senator Kerry Donovan, Gunnison County Commissioners, Gunnison Public Lands Initiative and others as we recognize the value of public lands to Gunnison County and Colorado. To celebrate, HCCA invites you to the following events:
Shooting Range Cleanup Service Project
One way to celebrate local public lands is to help keep them healthy. Can you join us to clean up the Lost Canyon shooting range? There will be BLM staff to help out with tools, gloves, trash bags, etc. We just need bodies! We will meet at the outdoor shooting range from9 am to 11 am. Directions: Off of Highway 135, head east on County Road 10 which turns into the Lost Canyon Road and Road 743. The shooting range is about four miles up Lost Canyon Road, on the left side, immediately when you enter BLM land.
Lost Canyon Hike
In the afternoon, join us on a free, guided hike up Lost Canyon! Starting from the Lost Canyon Road, we’ll hike about 5 miles round-trip. The hike has moderate elevation gain and meanders through sagebrush, topping out with 360-degree views of the Gunnison Country. Please come prepared with water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellant and any other materials you will need to enjoy a couple hours of hiking. We will meet at the Gunnison Bank and Trust in Gunnison at 1:30 to carpool to the hike.
Community Gathering With Senator Donovan
Later that day, join us at the High Alpine Brewery (111 N. Main St. Gunnison) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm for a community gathering of public land supporters, and a chance to engage with Colorado Public Lands Day bill author, State Senator Kerry Donovan. Joining us will be: Sen. Donovan, Gunnison County Commissioners and other elected officials, and representatives from local groups and coalitions including HCCA, Gunnison Public Lands Initiative, Crested Butte Land Trust, Gunnison Ranchland Conservation Legacy, Western MEM and more! Enjoy a free Colorado Public Lands Day Beer from High Alpine Brewing as we discuss public lands and community.
We hope to see you at all of these events!
