Please Join HCCA this Sunday for “Dinner at the Depot”
40th Anniversary Celebration featuring W Mitchell
Sunday, July 30th, 5 p.m.
The Depot, 716 Elk Avenue
This summer’s Dinner at the Depot (HCCA’s annual membership meeting) will combine with a celebration of 40 years of advocacy for our local environment. Please join us on July 30th at the Depot for a celebratory evening on the lawn including a potluck dinner, 40th anniversary slideshow, an environment-inspired art silent auction, live music by Bill Dowell and a keynote presentation by W Mitchell. Dinner at the Depot is a great time for all HCCA members and those interested in becoming members to learn more about HCCA’s most recent work, converse with the HCCA board and staff, and overall enjoy a summer’s eve in the company of other advocates.
Please bring a dish to share for the potluck dinner. Plates, utensils, napkins, and glassware will generously be provided by Sustainable CB. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
About W Mitchell…a Real Fearless Leader
When mining giant Amax informed the Crested Butte community in 1977 that they were going to mine Red Lady, Mitchell saw the “inevitable” mine as a challenge—one he would tackle head-on. Unfazed by the belief held by some that the mine was “unstoppable”, Mitchell ran for mayor to stand up against the threat to our quality of life. He won that race and worked tirelessly, despite his physical challenges, until Amax retreated in 1981.
Now, forty years later, we are very fortunate to have Mitchell as a featured guest at our 40th Anniversary Celebration and annual meeting. A renowned motivational speaker, Mitchell knows well the circumstances that enabled the Town and HCCA to assist Amax in abandoning their plans. He will share this incredible history, while inspiring us toward the future with his message, “It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do about it.” And he is living proof.
Calling all Beer Fanatics…Announcing the Comeback of the Red Lady Ale
Thanks to the former Crested Butte Brewery and the Irwin Brewing Company, we are excited to announce the comeback of the original Red Lady Ale in honor of 40 years of keeping Red Lady mine-free. The Red Lady Ale is an American Amber/Red Ale and we are very excited to pour this beer for all to taste at Dinner at the Depot. We will also be serving an Irwin Brewing Company pilsner, red and white wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. All refreshments are complimentary, but tips for our local environment are always appreciated!
Launching HCCA’s 2017 Membership Drive
Dinner at the Depot is also the official launch of HCCA’s 2017 membership drive. For 40 years, HCCA has been effective in protecting and conserving what makes Gunnison County special to us all. Will you help us reach 1,000 members in our 40th year? With a generous donation today, you can join or renew your membership and commitment to HCCA so that together we can continue our success for another 40 years.
At Dinner at the Depot, we will have a special membership table where you can join or renew your membership. For every new membership or renewal purchased, you will receive a complimentary gift membership for a friend who wants to be an advocate for our local environment. There will also be a special membership raffle at the event, where you can win two tickets to “Wine for Our Watershed”!
Get Your Signed Copy of “Stranger to the Woods”
Stranger to the Woods, a newly-released children’s book by Sue Navy, was first written in 1960, when Sue was in sixth grade, and recently revised and published with illustrations by Suzanne Pierson. It will appeal to the child in all of us, and to our children and grandchildren.
In Stranger to the Woods, a classic story of search, hope and fulfillment, Runaround, a puppy living in the Fun-Filled Forest, finds himself “lost” in the Deep Dark Woods. As his caring parents and community of creatures devote themselves to searching for him, we see how his unpredictable escapade provides an opportunity for appreciation of the needs of others, regardless of their differences. All ends well, with a twist no one could foresee.
Proceeds from sales benefit HCCA and Sue Navy will be on hand at Dinner at the Depot to sign your very own copy! Click here to order your copy today!
