HCCA’s Living History

Since HCCA’s foundation in 1977, HCCA has grown and evolved alongside the environmental needs of the Gunnison Country. While the fight against mining on Red Lady was our original mission, the passionate advocates behind HCCA have always — and will always — strive to do more. As long as the threats against public lands, waters, and wildlife persist, our work continues.

Living History

Over the past several decades, HCCA has led targeted programs focused on Red Lady, public lands, and water protection. Today, our mission has expanded to include a broader focus on Advocacy, Outreach, and Stewardship. Visit Our Work (link) to explore the current programs in depth, and browse this page to discover our rich history and the lasting impact of our work.

Our legacy includes major milestones such as forest plan revisions, Wild and Scenic River designations, instream flow protections, and the inspiring story of Saving Red Lady. View HCCA’s timeline of achievements and gain a holistic perspective of our journey as the Gunnison Country’s leading environmental advocate.
