HCCA Hike Season 2023

Following an epic winter in the Gunnison Valley, we are excited for the arrival of summer and all the glorious flowers that surely await us. Our 31 st year of Don Baker Legacy Hikes is here, and we hope you will join our weekly adventures into the magnificent public lands we thrive on conserving.

Come learn about the myriad aspects of HCCA’s work, while enjoying the camaraderie of old and new friends. Please be up-to-date on your Covid vaccines, for the health and comfort of all.

June 28 – Snodgrass Preserve (E-M, 3 mi. loop)

July 5 – Cement Creek Caves (M, 5 mi. loop)

July 12 – Poverty Gulch (M, 5 mi. r/t)

July 19 – Almont Triangle (M, 6 mi. r/t)

July 26 – Red Mountain (M-D, 5 mi. r/t)

August 2 – Lost Lake Loop (M, 3 mi. loop)

August 9 – Rosebud Gulch (M-D, 7 mi. r/t)

August 16 – Baxter Gulch (M, 5 mi. r/t)

August 23 – Hasley Basin (D, 7 mi. r/t, 10-person limit*)

August 30 – Oh-Be-Joyful (M-D, 8-10 mi. r/t)

Please remember that (E) “easy” and (M) “moderate” are relative terms, and at altitude and in mountainous, rugged terrain, challenges exist, and could be (D) “difficult” for some. All hikes require suitable capability and acclimation, as well as water, hat, raingear, sunscreen, lunch, hiking boots and sense of adventure. All distances are round-trip and approximate. Hike descriptions are on our website. Registered hikers meet at the Crested Butte Visitors Center parking lot at 8:30 AM and carpool to trailheads. Please bring vehicles—some destinations depend on suitable clearance. Return times will vary.

We will continue to abide by Forest Service regulations and environmental ethics, limiting our group size to a maximum of 15 people each week, *or fewer in certain wilderness areas. Please, no pets. We encourage you to register early and bring your friends to introduce to these majestic mountains and to High Country Conservation Advocates.

We look forward to sharing our magnificent public lands and trails with our members, and with new folks from diverse segments of the public, to whom our public lands belong. Our hikes are open to people of all races, ethnicities and persuasions. HCCA’s conservation work is multi-faceted, and we will share updates on Public Lands, Water, Stewardship and Red Lady as we enjoy our vast domain.
